Frequently Asked Questions - Chocolate & Health
1. Do you make sugar free or sugar alternative chocolates?
No. We do make 77% Extra Strong Dark and other dark chocolates that are significantly lower in sugar than typical chocolate.
2. How much caffeine is in Chocolove?
The below chart provides caffeine content for our Chocolove bars. However, it is important to note that there are other stimulants in chocolate in addition to caffeine and that are similar to caffeine, namely theobromine and theophylline. These naturally-occurring compounds have different types of stimulant properties. Given the mix of compounds and varying body chemistry of consumers, the reaction or stimulation one gets is uniquely personal. One Chocolove bar could equal one cup of coffee in total stimulants; although how you feel after eating one bar of chocolate would be different than after drinking a cup of coffee. The higher the cocoa content, the more stimulating the chocolate will be.

3. Saturated Fat
Cocoa butter is a naturally occurring component of cocoa beans. Cocoa butter has a chemical structure that technically makes it a saturated fat. No processing, additives or manipulation of the cocoa butter causes it to be classified as a saturated fat, it is just naturally classified that way. However, it does not behave like other saturated fats in the body and in our opinion it is not a cause for concern.
4. What if my dog eats chocolate?
As a rule, do not feed chocolate to your dog. Take appropriate measures to make sure your dog doesn’t swipe your bar off the counter or from wherever its nose has led it. If your dog eats chocolate, there is reason for concern and you should contact your veterinarian.
The risk is relative to the weight of your dog, the amount of chocolate it ate, the cocoa content of the chocolate, other foods eaten at that time, and the overall health of your dog. Typically, a 60 lb dog eating a 3 oz bar of chocolate is not going to be at a health risk if it is otherwise healthy, has otherwise eaten its normal amount of food, and can be monitored and exercised. However, please consult your veterinarian if your dog has eaten chocolate.
